Guilin & Yangshuo Without Hurry: The 8-Day Landscape Route (2026)
> Where the other eight-day route goes for history, this one goes for immersion: two full days each in Guilin and Yangshuo, then south into the counties almost no international visitor reaches — river villages under thousand-year banyans, the region's most beautiful show cave, and a Yao county of temples and persimmon orchards. Year-round route; March–November is prime.

Day By Day
The Route At A Practical Pace.
Use this as the daily structure, then adjust hotels and transport around your preferred comfort level.
Guilin, Properly
Day 1: East-West Lanes (2h) → Two Rivers, Four Lakes night cruise (3h) Day 2: Reed Flute Cave (2h) → Elephant Trunk Hill (2h)
The unhurried version of the city: arrival-day citywalking and street food, the floodlit night cruise past the twin pagodas and a dozen peaks, then the second day for Reed Flute Cave's lit stalactite halls (bring a layer — caves run cold) and the river-drinking Elephant Trunk Hill. Base in the walkable Shizi Jie centre both nights.
Yangshuo, Both Days It Deserves
Day 3: Yulong River raft (2h) → Ten-Mile Gallery (2h) → West Street (evening) Day 4: Xingping (3h) → Li River boat (1h) → Shanshui Park (1h) → Ten-Mile Gallery or Moon Hill (2h)
Day 3 drifts: the poled bamboo raft on the Yulong, the Ten-Mile Gallery by bike, an evening in West Street's 1,400-year-old bar-and-café bustle. Day 4 collects the postcard: Xingping and the ¥20-note river bend by boat. Hour-by-hour detail: Yangshuo 1-day itinerary. Split your two nights if you like — West Street for the scene, the Moon Hill guesthouse belt for green quiet and early-spring rapeseed fields.
Pingle — the Slow River County
Guijiang river cruise (2h) → the Rongjin ancient banyan grove (1h) → Xianjia hot springs (2h)
South into Pingle, the old prefecture town of Zhaozhou: a lazy Guijiang boat between untouristed karst, the thousand-year banyan grove at Rongjin — a village grown literally inside its trees — and the Xianjia hot springs to close. Nothing here is a headline; the entire day is texture, which after four postcard days is the point.
Lipu — the Silver Cave
Silver Cave / Yinziyan (2h) → Maling Drum Village (2h) → Lijiang Bay (2h)
Yinziyan — the Silver Cave — is the region's best show cave and it isn't close: a three-storey karst system strung with white, light-catching formations over an underground stream, the reflective "mirror lake" chamber its signature. Locals' saying: see the Silver Cave and you'll never be poor — every visitor leaves with the photo that explains it. Maling Drum Village adds a Zhuang cultural stop and Lijiang Bay a mini-Guilin river-and-peak scene. (Lipu's other claim to fame: it manufactures most of the world's wooden coat hangers, and its taro is nationally famous — order anything 芋头 at dinner.)
Gongcheng — the Yao County
Hongyan Village (2h) → Confucius Temple (1h) → Wu Temple (1h)
Gongcheng, the Yao autonomous county, pairs rural China at its most amiable — Hongyan village's persimmon orchards and farmhouse restaurants, ground zero of the spring Peach Blossom Festival — with an unexpected pocket of imperial orthodoxy: the county seat's Confucius and Wu (martial) temples stand side by side, the Confucian one among the best-preserved in southern China. It's the route's gentlest day and its most local one.
The Wind-Down
Qianguqing (4h) → Daxu Ancient Town (3h)
Back to Guilin for the soft landing: the Qianguqing minority-culture park and its spectacular headline stage show, and/or Daxu, the flagstone Ming-Qing market town on the Li that most tour buses skip. Evening train out — Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong are ~3 hours away.
Before You Go
Practical Notes.
The parts that affect comfort most in Guangxi: transport, maps, payments and how much countryside to take on.
- Transport pattern: Days 1–4 need nothing but buses, boats, bikes and DiDi. Days 5–7 are the driver-hire stretch — Pingle, Lipu and Gongcheng chain as a natural southern loop with a hired car, split between travellers; Lipu and Gongcheng also sit on the Guilin–Guangzhou rail line if you'd rather restructure around trains: train booking options.
- Getting in/out: ~3 hours by high-speed rail from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong West Kowloon — this route bookends a Pearl River Delta trip cleanly: Hong Kong entry guide.
- Payments and maps: Alipay guide / China travel essentials.
- Other lengths and themes: Yangshuo 1-day itinerary / Guilin 4-day itinerary / Guangxi 6-day itinerary / Guilin history 8-day itinerary
